It's the first question every new member asks on a tour, usually while standing between the lounge and the desk floor: should I float, or should I claim a spot? After onboarding hundreds of members, our hosts can usually tell within minutes — but these five questions get you there yourself.

1. How many days a week will you come in?

Three days or fewer, and hot desking almost always wins: you get variety, lower cost and no guilt about an empty desk. Four or more, and the daily ten-minute setup starts to grate — a dedicated desk pays for itself in saved time alone.

2. How much gear do you carry?

Laptop-and-headphones people thrive floating. The moment you add a second monitor, a drawing tablet or a beloved ergonomic keyboard, a reserved desk with lockable storage becomes the calmer choice.

The right desk is the one you stop thinking about by week two.

3. Do you recharge around people or away from them?

Hot desk lounges hum with conversation — energising for some, draining for others. Dedicated floors run quieter, with familiar neighbours and agreed norms. Neither is better; they're different batteries.

4. Will clients ever visit you?

If yes, a dedicated desk gives you a consistent place to receive people, plus meeting credits for the real conversations. Hot desk members can still book rooms, but regulars appreciate a home base.

5. What does your month look like?

Travel-heavy or unpredictable schedules favour the flexibility of hot desking. Steady routines favour dedication. And remember: at Solvane you can switch plans month to month — most members try floating first, then claim a desk when they know their rhythm.

Still torn? Book a tour and try a free hot desk day. By 5 PM, you'll know.
